LEAK ALLOWANCES - SAVE WATER, SAVE MONEY!

Mr Retic is a Waterwise Garden Irrigator. We are authorised to repair, assess and submit leak allowances with the Water Corporation for Irrigation leaks. However, please ensure you let Mr Retic know you are intending to submit a Leak Allowance when booking the job in, or whilst we are on site. This is so we are able to gather the information we need whilst on site to submit the paperwork.

We take pride in helping our clients develop and maintain healthy gardens and lawns. Likewise, we promote water efficiency and responsible irrigation practices. One of the services we provide is a Leak Allowance service in collaboration with the Water Corporation.

If you are suspecting that your reticulation system has a leak, don’t worry! With Mr Retic’s expertise, we can assist you in identifying and verifying leak-related issues in your reticulation system.

WHAT IS A LEAK ALLOWANCE?

A leak allowance is an initiative provided by the Water Corporation. It is assessed on a case-by-case basis if there has been a hidden leak at your property, causing your water usage to be unusually high. If you are eligible and approved, a rebate is credited back to your water account, up to 50% of the estimated water lost.

The rebate does not cover the costs of the repair work or service required to fix the leak by a Waterwise Garden Irrigator.

To be eligible for a Leak Allowance for your irrigation system, the following conditions need to be met:

  • The leak must be undetectable (not visible).
  • Irrigation repairs must be completed by a waterwise garden irrigator, compliant with the government regulations.
  • You must be occupying and/or maintaining the property.
  • A Watermark Certified manual isolation valve must be installed *.
  • A backflow prevention device complying with AS/NZS 3500.1 must be installed *.
  • A master control solenoid installed to meet irrigation industry standards.

* I am not able to install an isolation valve or backflow prevention device, but can arrange for our plumber to attend site and install these.

As a WGI (Waterwise Garden Irrigator), I am not able to repair or assess household plumbing leaks.

HOW DOES A LEAK ALLOWANCE WORK?

1

IDENTIFY THE WATER LEAK

The Water Corporation have information on how to detect a leak, you can find it here. If you notice a significant increase in your water bill, it is a good idea to go through the process of checking if you have a leak inside your home first. Then check if you have a leak outside your home. One of the most common leaks outside the home is from dripping taps or leaking reticulation systems.

If you have concerns about potential leaks in your retic system, contact Mr Retic for advice and assessment if required. We will test and inspect your reticulation system to detect any hidden leaks that may be causing water wastage.

2

REPAIR THE LEAK & ENSURE THE RETIC SYSTEM IS COMPLIANT

If a leak in your reticulation is identified and you would like to submit a leak allowance, don’t forget it must be repaired by a WGI (Waterwise Garden Irrigator).

We will then check the rest of your system to ensure there are no leaks and that the system is working appropriately with expected water pressure. We will then advise on whether your system is compliant with the water corp regulations. Eg, you have an approved manual isolation valve and backflow prevention device installed as well as a master solenoid.

If your system is not compliant with obtaining a leak allowance, we can give you our recommendations on how to make it compliant, as well as giving you contact details of our preferred plumbers.

Once the system has been made compliant, we can prepare and submit the application to the Water Corporation.

3

GATHER INFORMATION, PREPARE PAPERWORK & SUBMIT LEAK ALLOWANCE APPLICATION

Once the repairs have been done and we have ensured the retic system is compliant with the Water Corporation regulations, we will gather the information we need. We then prepare the leak allowance paperwork and submit the Leak Allowance Application to the Water Corporation on your behalf.

It is important to remember that not all gardeners and retic contractors are authorised to submit leak allowances to the Water Corporation. Don’t discover this AFTER they have been to site and fixed your problem.

If you have made the repairs yourself or another contractor has made the repairs, we will need to attend site and thoroughly check the repairs. We will also need to test the system and ensure the repairs and system is compliant before we can make a leak allowance application on your behalf.

4

leak allowance approval

Our job is done once we submit the paperwork for you. You should receive an email confirmation from the Water Corporation once we have submitted the leak allowance.

The Water Corporation will process the application within 15 business days and your Leak Allowance application. If the Leak Allowance is approved, the Water Corporation will credit your next bill up to 50% of the estimated water loss.
