Planning Your Reticulation for New Landscaping or Paving

If you’re planning some landscaping or paving work, don’t forget about your reticulation system! Taking care of a few things before installing hardscapes can save you a ton of hassle and money down the line.

What comes first, concrete/paving or reticulation?

Even before the first drop of concrete hits the soil or the first paver goes down, you need to plan for your reticulation needs. In new builds, budget or other priorities might dictate that reticulation is not high on the list of priorities when laying down paving and concrete, but it pays to plan ahead. The best practice is to run PVC pipe under all your lawn and paving / concreting, even if you won’t use it immediately.

Here are our tips to keep in mind when planning your reticulation needs and laying down paving or concrete:

Pick the right equipment

Go for PVC pipes under your concrete and paving instead of black poly pipes – they’re more durable and reliable. Black poly pipes are better suited for garden beds.

Think ahead

Running a PVC sheath under all paving and reticulation before laying down your PVC pipes is a smart move. It protects against compression and leaks, so you won’t have to deal with expensive repairs later on. Trust us, you don’t want to be stuck paying for replacement parts and costly labour charges because the reticulation expert needs to dig up all the pavers or concrete just to access and fix the pipes.

Also, don’t forget to permanently mark where the pipes are – this simple step can save you a lot of time and frustration down the road!

Work with the pros

Most builders, concreters, and pavers can install PVC sheaths for you – the ones who really know their stuff will probably insist on it! Make sure to discuss your future reticulation needs with them as part of your landscape design.

Plan your water supply

If you’re handling your landscape design, figure out how you’ll get water from your mains to your garden. Proper planning prevents problems and ensures your reticulation system runs smoothly.

Don’t overlook reticulation planning when you’re working on landscaping and paving projects. It’s super important for a well-functioning, efficient system. With these steps, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your garden and lawn are watered properly, without any future headaches.
