Micro Sprays: Are They Right for Your Garden?
Micro sprays can be a handy option for watering garden beds – but they come with a few things to watch out for.
They work by spraying a fine mist over your plants, which sounds great in theory. But in practice, you often get overspray onto paths, fences, or windows. In windy conditions (which we get plenty of here in Perth), that mist can drift and end up wasting water – or worse, leaving marks on nearby glass and paving.
Pros and Cons of Micro Sprays
Let’s break it down.
👍 Pros:
- Budget-friendly
- Easy to install
- Can cover larger areas quickly
👎 Cons:
- Fine mist can blow off target
- Harder to control water placement
- May cause staining on windows or walls
- Not great for water efficiency
That said, there are adjustable micro spray heads available now. These give you more control over the flow and spray pattern, which helps a bit with the drift issue. But in most garden beds – especially where precision matters – you might be better off with adjustable drippers.
In fact, I recently wrote about one of my go-to options: the Spectrum 360 drippers. They let you adjust in the spray exactly where you need it and even turn off individual heads when not in use.
So… Are Micro Sprays Worth It?
If you’re after cheap and quick, micro sprays can work – just be mindful of where the water’s going. But if you want more control and water efficiency, adjustable drippers like the Spectrum 360s often give you a better result long-term.
TL;DR: Micro Sprays in Garden Beds
- Yes, you can use micro sprays in garden beds
- But they often create overspray and water waste
- Windy days = mist on windows and paths
- Adjustable heads help, but drippers are more precise
